Health students excel at state competition
Sussex Technical High School medical occupations students recently won several medals in the Health Occupations Students of America Delaware competition. This is the first year that Delaware’s medical occupations students have competed in HOSA instead of SkillsUSA.
Sussex Tech brought home six gold medals, one coming in the dental science area, which is in Sussex Tech’s first year of the program. All gold medalists have now qualified for national competition June 19 to 24 in Orlando, Fla. Sussex Tech students also earned seven silver medals and one bronze medal. The Ravens dominated the Medical Terminology competition with a clean sweep of gold, silver and bronze. Winners and categories follow:
In Dental Science Logan Wharton, Frankford, won a gold medal.
The team of Taylor Kvilhaug, Seaford, and Jazmin Pilo-Castillo, Seaford, won gold in Health Education. Priyen Patel, Seaford, won gold in Nurse Assisting.
Taylor Hatfield, Georgetown, and Tori Hearn, Seaford, won gold and silver, respectively, in Physical Therapy.
In Medical Terminology Bansri Patel, Seaford, won gold, followed by Chelsea LeCates, Seaford, with silver and Logan Roe of Millsboro with bronze. The team of Lindsay Hetrick, Milton, and Rachel Mayhorn, Lewes, won silver in CPR/First Aid.
Career Health Display: The team of Claire Redman, Seaford, and Marissa Graham, Laurel, earned silver in Career Health Display.
In Job Seeking Skills Henson Destine, Seaford, won silver.
