Heat doesn’t stop Henlopen Acres’ annual July 4 parade
Kids, adults sport the ole Red, White and Blue to get in the holiday spirit

It was a hot and humid July 4 morning, but hundreds of Henlopen Acres residents and property owners still showed up for the town’s ninth annual Independence Day Parade. Dressed in red, white and blue, participants gathered at the marina and walked or pedaled around town. Following the parade, there were fun and games in the marina parking lot. Most importantly for the hot kids and adults, there was free ice cream from Cup ‘R Cone.
Although the parade is just for fun, there are winners for a number of different categories. Judges with the hard decisions are (l-r) Julia Marx, Lisa McMasters, Cindy Kaiser and Kate Lyons.
It was a hot day, so even the adults get in line for ice cream before 10 a.m.
This inflatable wasn’t on the parade route, but it was nearby.
Former Mayor David Lyons started the parade nearly a decade ago. Current Mayor Joni Reich, Kate Lyons and Tim Lyons prepare to hand out the inaugural Best in Show award.
