Nearly two years after a chunk of the Boardwalk-facing facade of the Henlopen Hotel fell off the building, the area is getting fixed.
A 45-foot-long piece of the eight-story, 92-room Henlopen Hotel fell off the building July 4, 2021. The cosmetic exterior soffit was located above a common area where people gain access to the Boardwalk.
At the time, the hotel manager said a structural engineer had inspected the property and verified that the damage was purely cosmetic, and the structural integrity is sound. This incident came just 10 days after the partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Fla.
Crews began working on the renovation project weeks ago. It’s unclear when they will be finished.
Representatives from the Henlopen Hotel could not be reached for further comment.
