Hiatus 24 opens in Lewes

Hot yoga, Pilates, wellness bar, nutrition and health coaching among offerings
July 18, 2024

Hiatus 24 officially opened its door at 17515 Nassau Commons Blvd. near Lewes June 24.

The business has much to offer the local community, including hot yoga, mat Pilates, a wellness bar and nutrition/health coaching.

“We have infrared hot yoga,” said owner Patty Ciano. “It's the healthy heat and it directly heats your muscles, so it helps with circulation and inflammation.”

The wellness bar offers organic coffee from Milton Home Coffee Roastery.

There is also a gratitude jar. Every time a customer comes to a class, they will fill out a card with something they are grateful for. On the 24th of each month, a name will be picked and the winner will receive 24 days of free coffee. Just the act of thinking of something to be grateful for improves mental health and well being, Ciano said.

cleardot.gifThere is also variety in teas available, including tumor teas, ginger teas, pepper teas, matcha and more. Plus, there will be three different wellness shots offered each week. Coming this fall, customers will be able to purchase bone broth. This has benefits for a person’s collagen, skin and joints, Ciano said.

“I love it, and I can’t wait for people to try it,” said Ciano.

Currently, classes are offered daily at 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. As the studio continues to grow, more classes will be added. The maximum a class will hold is 15 people.

Ciano is an Emmy Award-winning executive producer. She most recently ran the nationally syndicated medical talk show, “The Doctors,” in Los Angeles. This is where she was introduced to and found her passion for health and wellness. In August 2022, “The Doctors” ended its 14-year run, and by October 2022, Ciano was diagnosed with breast cancer; that came the same week she lost her insurance.

“Everything just kind of fell apart,” said Patty Ciano.

She underwent six months of surgeries and recoveries, ultimately having a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction. Ciano feels she received a new lease on life post-recovery. She decided she wanted to get out of Los Angeles and truly start enjoying her life. She followed her parents and made the big move to Lewes.

“I love hot yoga,” said Ciano. “I love bone broth. I like to run things. So, I was like I want to run a studio because I want to be surrounded by health and wellness.”

She signed the lease on the current location March. The term hiatus stems from Ciano’s television days, where hiatus was an extended break from filming. Ciano wants to provide a place for people to take a hiatus each day. The number 24 is Ciano’s lucky number, but it also symbolizes that when one’s actions are in line with their heart, they will achieve balance and peace, and enjoy the beautiful journey ahead. This was extremely fitting with the theme of the business, she said.
