High school students explore healthcare career pathways
The Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing hosted a Healthcare Exploration Day Dec. 17, welcoming more than 150 local students from a variety of high schools, including Cape Henlopen, Indian River, Sussex Central, Sussex Tech, Sussex Academy, Polytech and Milford.
Students were able to explore a broad range of healthcare pathways and careers, including nursing, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, medical residency, Beebe Medical Group, sterile processing, medical laboratory services, volunteer services and talent acquisition. By fostering these connections, Beebe is working to cultivate a strong and dynamic healthcare workforce for years to come.
Team members introduced attendees to the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available within Beebe Healthcare. Students were educated on various pathways to pursue these careers, whether through certifications, degree programs or specialized training for the many different roles that contribute to a thriving healthcare system.
Students also had the opportunity to connect with officials from local colleges and universities where they can pursue relevant certifications, degrees and continuing education programs locally, making it easier for them to stay in Sussex County while building their careers in healthcare.
Institutions represented included Delaware Tech, Wilmington University, Sussex Tech Adult Education and the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing.
“This event was a tremendous collaborative effort made possible by the dedication and hard work of many Beebe team members,” said Alison Watson, faculty member and student nurse recruiter at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing. “We hope that this will be the beginning of ongoing, interactive relationships with local high schools, giving students the opportunity to learn firsthand about healthcare careers and the many ways they can contribute to the future of healthcare in Sussex County.”
