Hilovsky has done a lot in first term

October 15, 2024

In his first term as a member of the Delaware House of Representatives, Rep. Jeff Hilovsky has proven to be a tireless and dedicated public servant for the people of his district and the state. As reflected in his lawmaking agenda and legislative accomplishments, Hilovsky has focused on important issues that affect us all without regard to partisan politics or special interests. He is easily approachable, listens to people’s concerns and is dogged in his pursuit of solutions to the long-standing problems facing Delaware residents. Visit the Delaware General Assembly’s website at https://legis.delaware.gov under his name and see for yourself.

Hilovsky is a member of six legislative committees and integrates these committee assignments with his legislative agenda. He has shown himself to be very effective at negotiating with committee and floor leaders in order to achieve his priorities. These priorities, informed by constituent meetings and discussions, include pressing matters affecting Delaware’s schools, healthcare, veterans and active military issues, public safety, and the performance of state agencies and their responsibility to the public.

Highlights from his first term include: 1. Introducing a bill with bipartisan support to require high school students take a half-credit course in financial literacy. Although the bill was not presented on the floor of the House for a vote due to opposition from school administrators, he drafted a House resolution to fund a financial literacy study to show the need for the requirement; 2. Legislation protecting veterans and their hard-earned benefits from predatory practices and establishing an annual We the Veterans day to honor and celebrate the state’s veterans. He is currently working to establish a cabinet-level position for veterans affairs; 3. Sponsoring an enhanced move-over law to better protect emergency personnel, utility workers and highway crews. He also co-sponsored a bill to help the state’s all-volunteer firefighters raise necessary funds to operate. He is currently meeting with DelDOT officials regarding much-needed safety measures apparently overlooked in the ongoing improvement of the intersection of Route 24 and Robinsonville Road.

Also notable was his willingness, in his personal capacity, to submit a public comment in opposition to the inappropriate Royal Farms application for a conditional-use permit to build and operate a gas station, convenience store and car wash at the intersection of Route 24 and Angola Road. This unique effort in support of his constituents sets Hilovsky apart from most legislators in the General Assembly who routinely, albeit incorrectly, deflect citizen requests for assistance by stating that such matters are entirely within the jurisdiction of the local government.

Hilovsky has accomplished much in his first term. Let’s send him back to Dover to continue his work to make Delaware a better place to live for all!
