Historic Rehoboth mural talk set at senior center April 25

April 17, 2025

A mural at Cape Henlopen Senior Center depicts the north side of Rehoboth Avenue as it appeared more than 100 years ago.

A presentation about the mural will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 25, at the center at 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach. The senior center is planning to move to a new location, and efforts are underway to raise funds for the mural’s preservation.

The Village Improvement Association mural project was carried out under the leadership of Fay Kempton, a VIA member who has since moved to West Virginia, but she will be on site to talk about what motivated the project and how she worked with Rehoboth historian Ed Wright to assure the work’s accuracy. She will also answer questions during the program. Rehoboth Beach Museum historian Paul Lovett will use photos from the 1900s to confirm the accuracy of the mural rendering.

Current museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday. Admission is by donation. Members enjoy special benefits.
