Hoey Stevenson is an excellent communicator

October 10, 2024

It isn’t every day you make a new acquaintance with a person who is welcoming, intelligent and with exceptional integrity – a woman of faith – and who later decides to run for state Senate. I met Kim Hoey Stevenson five years ago, by chance, and then saw her name in an article in the Cape Gazette, discovering she was the director of the mentoring program for Cape Henlopen School District. A brief conversation ensued and without hesitation I accepted an invitation to become a mentor with Cape Henlopen High School students. Kim continues to serve in this capacity, overseeing nine schools and hundreds of mentors with encouragement, excellent communication and helpful guidance when issues arise. She has demonstrated leadership for teachers and students alike to make their post-COVID school experience better and improve in-school retention.

As our acquaintance grew, I watched her work tirelessly for our area as a member of the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission (serving for six years). Kim tried diligently, with current ordinances in place, to strike a fair balance between inevitable development and land preservation and quality of life. No easy task with the rapid sale of farmland and home building.

It is my pleasure to know and endorse Kim Hoey Stevenson and her decision to run for District 6 Senate seat. She is an excellent communicator, a student of contemporary issues in Sussex County and beyond, and a friend of our beautiful environment.
