Hoey Stevenson nominated to fill Sussex P&Z position

Kim Hoey Stevenson of Lewes has been nominated to fill the vacant District 3 Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission seat.

Former commissioner and now Sussex County Councilman I.G. Burton announced the nomination at council's Jan. 24 meeting. She will appear at an upcoming meeting to begin the vetting process to fill the position by taking part in a public interview session.

She is a former City of Milford planning commissioner. Hoey Stevenson has been active in state Republican politics and has worked on several campaigns in Sussex and Kent counties.

Since 2015, she has served as communications director for the Delaware Senate Republican Caucus.

Hoey Stevenson has degrees in psychology and biology and co-authored the book, "Overcoming Misfortune: Children Who Beat the Odds." She is a graduate of the University of Delaware, Wake Forest University and the Women's Campaign School at Yale.

President of Hoey Freelance, she is an award-winning freelance writer for several publications. She was named Delaware's Young Mother of the Year in 2013.

She is past director of the First State Manufactured Housing Association, founding director of KINFolk and a former teacher at the Southern Delaware School of the Arts and Seaford Middle School.
