Hollymount 4-H celebrates 60 years

October 7, 2018

National 4-H Week is Sunday, Oct. 7 to Saturday, Oct. 13. This year’s theme is Inspire Kids to Do.

Locally, the Hollymount 4-H Club is celebrating 60 years as an active charter club, and its display is featured in the window at Love Creek Elementary School for the week beginning Monday, Oct. 8.

Club participants volunteered for Coastal Cleanup Sept. 22 at the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier beach. Then they went to Safeway to collect donated items for the Cape Henlopen Food Basket. Close to 300 pounds of food were collected.

4‑H is delivered by Cooperative Extension, a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences whereby young people learn by doing. With guidance from adults, kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship in a positive environment, and they are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4‑H in every county and parish in the country through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs, and 4‑H camps.
