Hosta club to offer rare varieties June 15 in Zwaanendael Park

Lewes Garden Tour vendors’ market open 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The DelMarVa Hosta Society will offer a number of hard-to-find hostas from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 15, at the Garden Market in Zwaanendael Park during the 29th annual Lewes Garden Tour.

The society has been a garden tour vendor for more than a decade, and for this year’s event will feature unusual specimens. They include Hosta ‘Road Rage’ with its ruffled character, H. ‘Black Hills’ with its heavily dimpled leaves, and H. ‘Jiminy Cricket’ to light up the shadiest of corners.

Hosta ‘Leather and Lace’ offers a variegated pie crust edge on a pointed leaf, and H. ‘Lemon Snap’ represents the latest trend in hybridizing, sporting bright-red petioles that fan out into vibrant yellow leaves. Many other rare hostas will be on hand to spark new discussions about the garden.

Of course, the club will offer old favorites such as H. ‘Sum and Substance’ – Zwaanendael Park boasts its own striking stand of these bright chartreuse beauties – and H. ‘Blue Mouse Ears’ for those seeking the perfect miniature hosta to put in a pot.

The DHS recently hosted the Dixie Regional Hosta Convention, and for the occasion the club ordered a commemorative 17 oz. stainless steel BPA-free water bottle. A few bottles remain and will also be for sale while supplies last. For those seeking to kick the plastic bottled water habit, these handsome bottles at $5 each are a great solution.
