Howard Carey, drag racing enthusiast
Howard “Butch” Carey passed away at home in Seaford Tuesday, April 1, 2025, with his wife of 38 years, Karen Webb Carey. He was born June 22, 1952.
Butch was a 1971 graduate of Indian River High School and Sussex Vo-Tech (auto body/repair). He was an auto body repairman/painter for Megee Motors, Diver Chevrolet, Rich’s Auto Body, and Carlton Massey. After a tractor-trailer accident with JB Hunt, he became a bus driver for Salisbury University, Chambers Bus Service, and Dutton’s Bus Service. Howard was very involved in drag and stock cars in his younger years. He worked on the stock car of Richard Jarvis from Ocean City, Md., both father and son. Butch’s weekends would be busy helping those drivers needing repairs. He and little Melvin Joseph were close friends who often worked together for those needing last-minute assistance.
There will be no services, as Howard donated his body to the UD Anatomical Board.
