Over the past several years, I have read many interesting, smart and heartfelt letters to the editor expressing people’s upset, frustration and opposition in respect to uncontrolled residential and commercial building development in Sussex County, the failure of policy-makers at Sussex County Council to make proactive decisions to provide for adequate infrastructure (roads, schools, etc.) to keep up with that seemingly uncontrolled growth, and the devastation caused by that growth to meadows, woods and wetlands.
It seems to me, if we keep voting in the same folks who are essentially green-lighting such policies and failing to take, or slow-walking, decisions that would correct/bring better balance to what people see as big problems, like the aforementioned, then people are going to just get more of the same. Isn’t that the problem?
Greg Kordal’s letter in the Oct. 1 issue hit a nerve with me, in a good way. The primary elections pointed to some ground shifting. If you want to see policy-makers make different decisions around uncontrolled building/development, provide for adequate infrastructure in a proactive way, and ensure that a healthy ecosystem in our county is nurtured and enhanced, then we need different people on Sussex County Council who will do that. It’s a no-brainer, folks. Be the change you wish to see in the world, and cast your vote in a way that makes a difference.
