After roughly two years of business, Coho’s Market & Grill in downtown Rehoboth Beach has been purchased by JAM Holdings. The sale was effective Dec. 30.

Rick Hardy and Dave Lyons opened the market in May 2020. The Rehoboth Avenue space was the longtime home to Grub Grocery.

Hardy and Lyons said they enjoyed creating their own business and developing new relationships with people met through Coho’s.

“Since we launched Coho’s in early 2020, our commitment to the business was our No. 1 priority, but at the expense of spending precious time with our families, and missing events like weddings, funerals and family get-togethers,” said Hardy and Lyons in a Dec. 31 press release.

JAM Holdings, owned and operated by Mark Hunker and Jeff McCracken, is the parent company for JAM Bistro, Eden Restaurant, Red White and Basil in Rehoboth, and the Duplex Diner in Washington, D.C.

Hunker and McCracken said they promise to keep up the goodwill Hardy and Lyons built, while also continuing to build on the customer experience they’ve cultivated over the years at their restaurants.

“Jeff McCracken and I are excited to announce the new addition to our restaurant group! Having known Rick and Dave for almost 20 years, we are excited to take over the amazing market and grill they created for the Rehoboth and Dewey community that they love,” said Hunker in an email Jan. 1.

Hunker said the move allows the entire JAM enterprise to enhance its brand and to expand how people enjoy the specialties from their other restaurants – such as mac & cheese or key lime pie from Eden, or edamame guacamole or short ribs from JAM Bistro.

Beginning this spring, when Red White and Basil is fully up and running, Coho’s will also offer fresh pastas made in-house and other dishes from there, said Hunker, adding the sky's the limit with an in-house pastry chef.

According to the press release announcing the sale, JAM will retain the Coho’s name and will honor Coho’s gift cards and loyalty points. The existing menu and  team will also remain.

“We will work with them to ensure a seamless transition,” said Hardy and Lyons. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you again for this great experience and support.”
