James Barclay Phillips II, owned Phillips Marine Service
James Barclay Phillips II, 63, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024. He was born Sept. 2, 1960, in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of the late James and Jane Phillips.
James moved to Lewes with his parents when he was 17. He was big-hearted and vibrant, and radiated with light. He accepted everyone with an open heart and open arms. His true love of boats and rescuing them manifested into a lifelong career. Eventually, James became the proud owner of Phillips Marine Service LLC for over 20 years. He had many hobbies, including cooking, shucking oysters, participating in Punkin Chunkin, camping, and just tinkering around. James was also a member of American Legion Post 17. Being a caring and big-hearted soul, James was an animal lover, taking in and loving his five cats and two dogs. His departure will be deeply felt by his entire family and community.
James is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Monica Rae Phillips; his stepdaughters, Meredith Rhoads and Michelle Rust; his cousins, Allen Phillips (Sarah) and J.R. Gray; and Perry Summers, whom James took under his wing at a very young age.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes.
