James A. Caulfield, retired attorney, businessman
James A. Caulfield, 80, formerly of Rehoboth, passed away surrounded by family in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, after a long illness.
He was born and raised in Chevy Chase, Md. After many years as an attorney and businessman in the Washington, D.C. area, he moved to Delaware in the early 1990s, where he headed Draper Canning in Milton and was a senior leader at Country Life Homes in Milford.
James was an active member of the recovery community in the Cape Region and helped many people on their road to sobriety.
James was an avid reader, had a quick wit, loved holding court with family and friends, enjoying nature and the beach, and playing golf.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Philip A. and Grace Caulfield; his brother, Dr. Philip Caulfield; and his fiancée and loving companion, Mary Lee. He is survived by his five children; James Caulfield (Leslie), Grace Marshall (Ken), Mollie Manfreda, Terry Caulfield and Emily Caulfield; and his three grandchildren, Lily Manfreda, Avery Manfreda and Patrick Caulfield.
Services will be held at a later date.
