James E. Jasch, proud veteran

June 5, 2024

James E. Jasch, known as Jim to everyone who knew him for longer than 10 minutes, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Jim was born on Oct. 9, 1946, to Laura F. Jasch (nee Curran) and Bruno G. Jasch in Philadelphia, where he stayed and attended Saint Henry's Roman Catholic School, graduating in 1960. Jim then attended Saint Joseph's University, where he served many years as student body president/leader, graduating with the Class of 1968, having gained a degree in English literature. While in college during the turbulent ‘60s, Jim was also an active member and leader of the Saint Joseph ROTC Program.

Upon graduation, Jim joined the Air Force as a captain, as an Air Force squadron commander, where he embarked upon a fascinating military career that would take him to all 50 states, Europe, the continent of Oceania, and Southeast Asia. Additionally, Jim volunteered to serve a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he was part of the Air Force Intelligence Team. Jim continued his career with the Air Force Intelligence Team upon return to the States, working in the Office of the Inspector General and then the Joint Chiefs of Staff; leaving the Air Force in 1968 when he met his life partner and spouse, John Young. After a brief period as a legal administrator, Jim spent the remainder of his career in leadership positions within the commercial real estate industry in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

In 1980, Jim and his spouse purchased and renovated a historic farm in Colesville, Md., where they were considered legendary hosts for numerous charitable events – their annual Halloween balls are still talked about today. In 2000, Jim joined the Rehoboth Beach community and became an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where he was especially passionate about and involved in the youth ministries. Jim enjoyed cooking, gardening, and a love of national and international travel with his spouse and their dear friends.

Jim is survived by his husband, John Young; sister, Laura Oswald; niece, Laura Matthews (nee Oswald, husband James, and great-niece Darian); sister-in-law, Theresa Corbin (nee Young, husband Andre, and nephew Samuel); as well as numerous friends and extended family.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Bruno G. Jasch; and his mother, Laura F. Jasch.

A memorial service will be held with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 6, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes.
