James Edward Turley Jr., DSWA retiree
James Edward Turley Jr., 78, of Georgetown passed away peacefully Friday, July 12, 2024, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
James was born in Cumberland, Md., to the late James Edward Sr. and Mary Irene (Ogline) Turley. He graduated from Frostburg State University and retired from the Delaware Solid Waste Authority as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and gardening. He was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed the outdoors, partaking in fishing and biking. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Patricia, visiting national parks, and chaperoning school trips to Europe with her as well. He collected tractors and restored them, and was a fan of muscle cars, particularly the Chevelle. He relaxed watching “Vice Grips Garage.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Gene (Ellis) Turley; and his granddaughter, Hannah Julianna Davis. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Irene (Turley) Fuller; daughter, Heather Minton-Turley and her husband James; son, Dwayne Turley and former wife Jodie; adopted daughter, Wendy Ann (Townsend) Davis and husband Brian; and grandchildren, Christopher (Minton) Lacey, Joseph Minton, Matthew Minton, Sadye Minton and Maxwell Turley.
A time of visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, July 22, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, at Scarpelli Funeral Home chapel, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Md. The burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland following the service.
