James Joseph Palo, retired meter reader

James Joseph Palo, 72, of Lewes, formerly of Lester, Pa., passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., July 14, 1942, son of the late James E. and Margaret M. (Sykes) Palo. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during peacetime in Korea.

Mr. Palo retired as an industrial meter reader for the Philadelphia Electric Company in 1994 after 30-and-a-half years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, the AMVETS Post 2 in Millsboro, and the VFW Post 4845 in Essington, Pa.

Jim enjoyed crabbing, camping and was an avid NASCAR fan. He will be forever remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Hassiepen. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia Ann (Achey) Palo; a daughter, Annette Palo (Thomas Flynn) of Lester, Pa.; a granddaughter, Makayla Flynn of Lester; a brother, Charles A. Palo of Lincoln; a sister, Helen M. Propst of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Interment will be held at Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, Pa.
