James W. Hynson, DuPont Co. retiree
James W. Hynson, 89, of Lewes, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes. He was born Nov. 12, 1925, in New York City, N.Y., son of the late Willard and Catherine (Krisak) Hynson.
Mr. Hynson attended Torrington High School in Connecticut, graduating in 1941. Soon after his graduation he would enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably serve his country during the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Following his service, Mr. Hynson would pursue higher education at Rider University in Trenton, N.J., where he graduated with his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1950.
During his time at school, Mr. Hynson would wed his longtime sweetheart, Vanzy, and shortly after graduation they would move to Wilmington to settle and raise their beautiful family. Here, he would work a lifelong career with the DuPont Company until his retirement in 1985 after 35 dedicated years. Following his retirement, Mr. Hynson enjoyed spending his winters in Stuart, Fla., and hitting the golf course every chance he had. He also enjoyed volunteering countless hours at the Emmanuel Dining Room in Wilmington, keeping their books.
Mr. Hynson was a member of the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, a past parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Wilmington and current parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes. His many joys included gardening, boating, sailing and sports. From coaching numerous youth teams, to going out to a Phillies game or cheering on his beloved Duke Blue Devils, Mr. Hynson was never far from a game. Above all, he cherished every moment spent with his family and friends. Especially when there was a party, there was never a question, Mr. Hynson was the life of the party. Mr. Hynson was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend who’s constant laughter and positivity will be missed and cherished.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hynson was preceded in death by his only sister, Julia Basso. He is survived by his loving wife and childhood sweetheart of more than 77 years, Vanzy (Avenia) Hynson; his one son, Jim Hynson and his wife Chris of Newark; his four daughters: Linda Siena and her partner Bill Duffy of Jupiter, Fla., Diane Ogorek and her husband Rich of West Chester, Pa., Karen Verica and her husband Jack of Tequesta, Fla., and Judy Scrutchfield and her husband Ron of Lewes; his 12 grandchildren: Josh Hynson, Julianna Hynson, Johnathon Hynson, Jill Hynson, Justin Ogorek, Lauren Magee and her husband Brendan, Adam Ogorek, Jillian Ogorek, Jackie Hudiburg, Joann Plockova and her husband Roman, Dan Scrutchfield and Andrew Scrutchfield; his four great-grandchildren: Kendra, Hayden, Harper, and Whitman; and his sister-in-law, Mary Douglas of Jupiter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m., at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow Mass at St. Peter’s Pilottown Road Cemetery, Lewes. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
