Jane Anna Showell, dedicated church member

Jane Anna Showell, 79, quietly departed this life Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Jane was born May 26, 1944, in Lewes, to the late George and Beatrice (Riley) Showell. Jane graduated from Lewes Junior High School and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown.

Jane was a dedicated member of St. George A.M.E. Church, Lewes, where she was a member of Sunday school, Young People’s Division and Temple Singers Choir. In her later years, she served as a trustee and a member of the culinary department. Jane also enjoyed the nondenominational Bible study on Tuesday mornings. 

Jane worked at Doxsee Clam Factory until it closed, then Jerry’s American Cafe. After Jerry’s closed, she worked at Beebe Medical Center in the sterile processing department until her retirement.  

Jane enjoyed gardening, birding, and decorating her house for the holidays.  he especially enjoyed the smell of the freshly cut Christmas tree. 

Jane was preceded in death by her son, Brian Keith Showell; and her sister, Judith Showell Tankard. She is survived by her daughter, Debra M. Showell; sister, Delema Showell Lott; uncles, Lois E. Riley (Lonnie) and James Ball; her nephew, Barry Lott; niece, Charlotte Lott; special cousins, Paul Williams, who was like a brother, and Charmaine Dunning Thomas. She had special classmates and friends who kept in touch with her, Majorie White, Warren Gaines, Mercedes Barrett, Vernon Street; and many more classmates, cousins, and friends. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. George AME Church, 317 Park Ave., Lewes. Family and friends may visit two hours prior to the service.
