Jane E. Taylor, kind, compassionate woman
Jane E. Taylor, 92½, of Harbeson, passed away quietly Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, at Delaware Hospice in Milford. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., June 10, 1931, daughter of the late William and Sophia (Filehne) Doherty, and married the love of her life, Laurence Taylor, May 17, 1953.
Jane’s employment history reflected her intelligence and her outward compassion for others. She worked as an accountant and a special needs teacher, was the best homemaker ever, and worked at a commercial bank.
As a resident of Delaware for 28 years, Jane enjoyed life as a wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, and volunteer to children and adults. She had many different and diverse interests, pastimes, and hobbies. She was a dear friend to many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Laurence Taylor; brother, William Doherty; grandson, Kevin Taylor; and nephew, William J. Doherty.
She is survived by her daughter, Susanne (Kirby) and Susanne’s former husband Bruce; her son, Michael and his wife Ellen Duffy-Taylor; and three grandsons, Connor and Ryan Kirby, and Matthew Taylor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jane's memory to the Marine Corps Association Foundation, 715 Broadway St., Quantico, VA 22134-5176; and/or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
