Jason Anderson Foundation supports Seaford youth football and cheer

August 31, 2021

While everyone has been working through the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis, the Jason Anderson Foundation has been hard at work supporting Delaware youth sports programs in recognition of the urgent need to get kids back onto the playing fields and courts in area communities.

As costs continue to rise, registration fees, equipment purchases and travel expenses become major barriers for participation in youth sports programs. Since 2012, participation in youth sports has steadily declined nationally as parents struggle to balance their finances.

The Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports recently awarded the Seaford Pop Warner and Seaford Elite Youth Football programs with grants of $2,400 and $1,500, respectively. The monies were used to purchase equipment and uniforms to supplement team funds normally collected through player registration fees.

“Due to COVID and other factors, we decided to offer football and cheer free to all kids that play for Seaford Elite this year,” said Shawn Williams, director of Seaford Elite Youth Football. “The funds from the Jason Anderson Foundation will allow us to purchase uniforms for the entire program.”

Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $42,000 in grants and scholarships to local sports organizations and families. Delaware youth sports groups and interested parties in need of financial assistance can download the applications at jasonandersonfoundation.org.

The Jason Anderson Foundation has provided groups like the ones below with grants ranging from $500 to $3,000 to assist those in need who want to participate in a youth sports activity:

  • Dover Little League
  • Kent County Stallions
  • The Police Athletic League of Delaware – Youth Basketball League at Garfield Park
  • Duffy's Hope
  • Henlopen Soccer Club
  • The Western YMCA
  • Kirkwood Soccer
  • Berlin Seahawks
  • Delaware Tribe
  • Seaford Elite and Seaford Pop Warner football programs
  • Delaware Shore Field Hockey
  • Delaware Elite Basketball
  • Slingshot Lacrosse
  • Urban Promise of Wilmington
  • Delaware Youth Soccer Association
  • The Factory Youth Basketball and Flag Football Programs.

The Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to provide children in need the opportunity to participate in a community organized youth sports activity. The foundation was established by the Anderson family after Jason died in an automobile accident in January 2015 at age 33. The outpouring of support for the family from friends, colleagues, co-workers, neighbors and gracious community members prompted the family and close friends to establish the foundation in Jason's name as a way to give back to the community.
