Jean C. Crump, woman of faith
Jean C. Crump, nee Lewis, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 18, 2023. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Kenneth G. Crump; brother, Charles Lewis; father, J. Verne Lewis; mother, Gertrude T. Lewis; and stepmother, Beryl E. Lewis. She is survived by two sons, George of Willow Grove, Pa., and Kenneth of Lewes; a daughter, Carolyn of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and four granddaughters and two great-grandchildren, all of Pennsylvania.
She was born June 13, 1929, in Clarks Summit, Pa. Jean graduated from Central High School in Scranton, Pa., and the Hahnemann Hospital School of Technology; she worked prior to marriage as a medical technician for Dr. O’Boyle in Scranton. After raising her children, she worked for the International Salt Company (Akzo Nobel) in Clarks Summit until her retirement in 1991. She was an active member of Clarks Green UMC for 58 years, and devoted to her faith.
In her youth she enjoyed skating and dancing, and airplane trips with her father, a pioneer aviator. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting while raising her children. In later years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing as a member of the Big Band Society, golfing, playing cards and traveling. She most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was devoted to them.
The funeral was conducted at Clarks Green United Methodist Church with services by Rev. Jim Hollister and Father Scott Russell. Interment was in the Clarks Green Cemetery, where Jean was buried next to her husband.
