Members of Masonic Lodge No. 15, also known as Jefferson Lodge, along with families, guests and dignitaries, met June 16 in a field on Sweetbriar Road, just north of Route 9, to break ground on a new lodge building, marking a significant milestone for the local masonic community.
The new building is set to replace the current lodge on Second Street in Lewes, which has served members since June 27, 1849. The masons are eagerly anticipating the enhanced space to continue their work with a design that combines classic masonic architectural elements with state-of-the-art facilities.
The 7-acre tract of land that will house the new masonic temple was donated to the masons by Walter Hopkins.
