Jefferson Masonic Lodge 15 celebrates 175 years of helping community

July 7, 2024

Jefferson Masonic Lodge 15, a cornerstone of the community, marked its 175th anniversary with a dinner party June 28. The event, attended by members and distinguished guests, took place in the CHEER Center in Georgetown. Attendees enjoyed a gourmet meal, live music and speeches highlighting the lodge's rich history and contributions to the community. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and pride as members reflected on the lodge's legacy and its impact over nearly two centuries.

Originally from New Castle, the lodge was moved to Lewes and revived under the same name and number June 27, 1849. The lodge went from a rented room in a hotel to two more lodges, a devastating fire in which they lost their building, records and property in 1920, and they are now building a new masonic temple just off Route 9. The lodge has survived through its members and the brotherhood of the fraternity.
