Jennie Hansen of Lewes to celebrate 90th birthday April 15
Jennie Hansen of Lewes will be turning 90 on Saturday, April 15.
Her daughter Lois Hansen of Laurel and her granddaughter, U.S. Air Force Capt. Jessica Hansen, want to recognize, celebrate and praise Jennie for all she has done and continues to do for her community, family and friends.
“Our mom/grandma is such a selfless woman, and today we want to celebrate her. We are so thankful for you and proud of all you continue to do for us and our community. Happy 90th birthday.”
Jennie moved to Lewes in 1993 and has been an active member of the community ever since. She started serving Lewes in 1993 as a volunteer at the New Life Thrift Shop where she helped out each week, and spoke to local churches and raised funds to help build its current location. She helped found the Cape Henlopen Food Basket in 2002, where she served for almost 20 years and held the position of vice president for many years.
She served Groome United Methodist Church for over 25 years and held the position of lay leader. She made soup weekly for Groome’s Bible study group, and she founded a breakfast mission to feed the homeless every Saturday. She has been hosting a Monday prayer meeting at her house for local Christians for the past 25 years.
Jennie received an award from the Lions Club in 2002, the Saint Barnabas Award in 2009 and the Cape Henlopen Grange Community Citizen of the Year Award in 2017.
