Country music superstar and Milton native Jimmie Allen posted a selfie in front of Milton Quick Stop on his Instagram account April 20, two days after being named Academy of Country Music’s New Male Artist of the Year.
“Back in my hometown at my favorite breakfast spot” reads the post on Allen’s Instagram Stories. The country singer made history with the award, as he became the first Black musician to be named new male artist of the year.
"Growing up listening to country music, I loved it. It's all my dad listened to," he said in an interview with People magazine. "My dad was like, 'Well, you should be a country singer,' and I was like, 'Yeah, nah, they're all white. I don't know if they let people like me even sing country music.'"
