Joanna M. Baker, passionate nurse
Joanna M. Baker, 67, of Greenwood, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 5, 1956, in Wilmington, beloved daughter of Patricia Ann (Weisgerber) Robinson and the late Joseph Anthony Sekcienski Sr.
Joanna was a graduate of Delaware Technical & Community College, where she earned her associate’s degree in nursing. She worked for ChristianaCare in the Oncology/Hematology Unit. She ultimately found her passion in mental health nursing, where she enjoyed her tenure with Delaware Psychiatric Center, followed by Ellendale Detox Center. She loved animals, gardening, nature, cooking, entertaining family and friends, and participating in community service.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Jeffrey W. Baker; her father, Joseph Anthony Sekcienski Sr.; her brother, Joseph Anthony Sekcienski Jr.; and beloved dachshunds, Jimmy and Junior.
Joanna is survived by her husband, Thomas Joseph Liston; her mother, Patricia Robinson and husband Sam of Millsboro; her brother, James Sekcienski Sr. and wife Karen of Ellenton, Fla.; daughters, Angela Caldwell of Townsend, Carrie Caldwell of Newark, Laurie Caldwell of Philadelphia, Pa., and Amy Whaley and husband Michael of Harrington. She was the proud "Mom-Mom Froggy" of Amanda Zimpfer, JJ Stansell, Anthony Whaley, Charlotte Dunfee, Jonathan Data, Christian Whaley, Joe Stansell, Thomas Data, Marianna Whaley and Joe Data, and great-grandmother of Callie Stansell, Nikita Tweed, Keanu Tweed and Messiah Tweed. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Joanna will be dearly missed by all, including her beloved dachshund, Jazzie.
Services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends and family may visit from 2 to 3 p.m. Interment will be private.
