Joanne B. Oncay, DuPont retiree

Joanne B. Oncay, 82, of Millsboro, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022, peacefully at home with her loving family by her side.  Born July 11, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pa., Joanne was the daughter of Harry J. Sr. and Anna Juhascik Drain.

After graduation, she went to work at Wyeth Laboratories in Philadelphia, where she met her loving husband of 60 years, Terry Oncay.  She was a homemaker until moving to Delaware, where she worked for DuPont.  Upon retirement from DuPont, she moved to Millsboro.  She was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church and former member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in New Castle.  Joanne and Terry volunteered every Tuesday for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years.  She was a loving mother and her family was her world.  She enjoyed skiing, golfing, and yearly vacations with family at the Wildwood shore.  She also enjoyed traveling, and was able to take a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with her husband, brother Larry and his wife Eleanor, and her daughter sponsored by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.  She was an avid Eagles Fan and loved the beach, shopping, crosswords and trips to Dairy Queen for her marshmallow sundaes.  She was always up for a competitive game of trains or Scrabble.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Harry Drain, Charles Drain and Lawrence Drain; and a sister, Delores Flannery.

In addition to her husband, Terry, Joanne is survived by children, Robert B. Oncay (Karen) of Newark, Beth Brilla-Reta (Tom) of Woodbridge, N.J., Terrance W “aka 2-E” of Wilmington, RoseAnn Oncay-Steinbeiser (Eric) of Newark, and Nadine B. Oncay of Lewes; grandchildren Drew Oncay, Jessica Arnott, Brett Shavack, Brittany Quynn, Jordan Oncay, Brooke Steinbeiser, Alyssa Shavack, Ericca Shavack and Eric J. Steinbeiser Jr.; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Paul, Brett, Sam, Avery, Beckham, Max, Violet, Ellis, Delaney, Layla, Makai and Raelynn; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, -nephews, and close friends.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Seasons Hospice, and especially Renee and Melissa for their loving, compassionate care.

A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear.  Interment in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joanne's name may be made to Meals on Wheels, Sussex County; Nanticoke Indian Association, Millsboro; or Seasons Hospice.
