Joanne Marie Jeck Verderosa, truly loved animals

June 21, 2024

Joanne Marie Jeck Verderosa, 63, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, where she was lovingly cared for at TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 19, 1960, at Point Pleasant Hospital, Point Pleasant, N.J. She grew up on Pennsylvania Avenue, Wall, N.J., attending Wall Township School system. Joanne was blessed with a happy childhood, marked with that wonderful smile and talkative nature.

Her lifelong love of animals included daily trips to Eckman’s Farm with her father to care for, feed, and ride her horse.  That love of animals started at an early age.  She was known to bring home a variety of strays, unbeknownst to her parents (hidden in the basement, with her sisters sworn to secrecy), and most were welcomed into the family (not the snake). After moving to Delaware with the love of her life, Donald, they continued their rescue efforts with many greyhounds joining their family. When we think of the many joyous greetings at Rainbow Bridge, it warms our hearts.

Joanne had many friends, maintaining her friendships from Wall, various workplaces, and friends in Delaware. Her coworkers always became her friends. In the recent past, Joanne maintained an active, opinionated, never-dull presence on social media; friends and family can appreciate her role there and their many exchanges online with her.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Henry F. Jeck and Margaret Murphy Jeck; husband, Donald Verderosa; and brother-in-law, Ed Dormand. Joanne is survived by her children, Jaime Clark, Lisa Clark (Keith) and Joseph D’Agostino; and beloved grandchildren, Joshua and Samantha. She is also survived by stepchildren, Rocky D’Agostino III, Donald Verderosa III and Tiffany Verderosa, and their children, Olivia and Alexandra.

Joanne will be greatly missed by her four sisters, Carol Bess (Harry), Linda Thompson (Jeff), Judy Backes (Jack) and Debbie Dormand, three nieces; five nephews; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

If desired, donations may be made in Joanne’s honor to Greyhound Pet Adoptions of Delaware, gpadelaware.org.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
