John "Jack" Goodwin, dedicated police officer

John "Jack" Christopher Goodwin, 92, a resident of Rehoboth Beach for 20 years, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Ridley Township, Pa., son of the late William and Ethel (Otlinger) Goodwin.

Jack attended Ridley Township High School. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the submarine USS Remora during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

Jack was a police officer in Ridley Township for 28 dedicated years and later a school bus driver for the Ridley School District.

Above all, Jack was a family man who cherished time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Shirley E. (Taylor) Goodwin; his sons: Christopher, Glenn (Susan), and Timothy Goodwin; his five grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Tom Goodwin.

Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.
