John Walter Johnson, had successful career

October 14, 2024

John Walter Johnson, 70, devoted husband of Denise Kaczmarczyk, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024.

He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1954 to W. Howard Johnson and Antonia (Demestihas) Johnson. John was raised with his brother, Peter Johnson, and his sister, Kathy Scott.

John graduated from University of Maryland, earning his bachelor's degree in 1974. In 1979, he was hired by a Washington-based captive insurance company as an underwriter. In 1992, he was elected to the board of directors and ultimately became the president/CEO. After 30 years of dedicated service to the company, John retired in 2009. He and Denise moved to Chestertown, Md., where they lovingly attended to their home and surrounding gardens. They also enjoyed extensive travel, and in 2018, they moved to Lewes to be close to the beach.

Delaware Hospice caretakers provided unconditional comfort and support during John's convalescence, as did the wonderful staff of aides at The Lodge at Historic Lewes. John was very welcoming of visitors and rewarded them with a smile that would light up the skies. He will be missed by his loved ones and all those who knew him. He leaves behind numerous family members and friends.

Services will be held privately.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at The Lodge at Historic Lewes, 1008 Kings Hwy., Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to Delaware Hospice at delawarehospice.org.
