Johnson Orthodontics donates Save-a-Tooth Kits to local schools

October 26, 2023

October is National Orthodontic Health Month and a great time for everyone to think about taking good care of their smile. Part of that includes protecting one’s teeth.

Because accidents can happen at any time, local orthodontist Dr. Jonathan Johnson has once again donated Save-a-Tooth kits to all Cape district schools, as well as Sussex Academy and Worcester Prep. Should a student’s tooth accidentally be knocked out on the playground, the playing field, or even in the classroom, the Save-a-Tooth kit can keep it alive for 24 hours.

Johnson has donated these kits in the past and was happy to do it again knowing that they have been successful in saving at least one local smile. In January 2020, a Sussex Academy student fainted in class, hitting the tile floor face-first and knocking out one of her teeth. Her teacher was able to locate the tooth, and the school nurse placed it in the Save-a-Tooth kit. Because it was kept safely inside the kit, the student was able to have the tooth replanted by her dentist.

Although Johnson hopes the schools seldom have occasion to use these kits, he wants them equipped and ready to protect their students’ beautiful smiles.
