Jon Waterman to give talk and lead meditation retreat March 5-6
The Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will present Unconditional Presence, with returning meditation teacher Jon Waterman as a public Dharma talk and a Saturday meditation retreat Friday and Saturday, March 5-6, at St. Peter’s Episcopal parish hall and the Biden Center, respectively.
Buddhism teaches suffering is rooted in people not realizing who they are. Insight Meditation offers tools to bring this realization to light. To experience the true essence of the mind, acknowledge the accumulated mental junk and know the difference between the two, one can then begin to welcome the essential calm mind back into daily life, undermine negative habits and live fully in the present moment. Waterman will guide attendees through exploring the practices of unconditional presence and compassion and enliven their potential for living in luminous calm, love and awareness.
Waterman has been practicing yoga and meditation for four decades and has been extremely supportive of the Insight Meditation Community of Lewes Sangha since its inception. His retreats focus on strengthening continuity of present-moment awareness by combining mindful movement, insight (Vipassana) dialogue and meditation techniques. He has a personal coaching practice and is a founding partner of Mind Body Health Associates, a group providing mindfulness-based stress reduction programs.
A community gathering and social is also planned for 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 14, at the home of Nick Edge and Sharon Forrest in Lewes. The public is invited for an update on activities, sharing inspirations and celebrating the Sangha – the local Buddhist community. Appetizers and beverages are provided, but additional favorites are welcomed. Nonperishable food items will also be collected for local food charities.
