Joyce Wilkie Hart, interior decorator

Joyce Wilkie Hart passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Westminster Health Center in Dover.  Joyce was born in Detroit, Mich. July 7, 1925, the oldest daughter of Donald Rea Wilkie and Doris Meta Wilkie.

She grew up working in the upholstery shop at Wilkie’s Furniture in Milford. Joyce graduated from Milford High School and the New York School of Interior Design.

Joyce Elaine Wilkie and H. Spencer Hart were married on a snowy day Jan. 20, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church of Milford.   They lived a short while in Milford, but then returned to the Hart Family Farm near Lewes where they raised their family.

Joyce continued her career with interior decorating, making slip covers and draperies for many people in the Lewes and Rehoboth area.  Many will remember her by “Joyce’s Slipcover Shop”.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, and also her brother Rea Wilkie and sister Wanda Wilkie Schobelock.  She is survived by her son Wayne Hart and wife Connie of Bloxom, Va., and children Ginger Villanueva and husband NJ and their children Addison and Spencer; and Eric Hart and wife April and their children Tyler and Lindsay.  She is also survived by her two daughters, Carol Stone and husband David of Pinehurst, N.C. and children Debbie Parr and son Austin; and Charles Cunningham and wife Leslie and their children James and Charley Rae; and her daughter Janice Hart Burris of Milford, and her children, Allison Castellanos and husband Julio and their children Maximo and Octavio; Jason Burris and wife Taryn and their children Gannon, Evan and Ellie; Rachael Keys and her husband Lloyd and their children John, Marshall, and Henry; and Sarah Lauzen and her husband Ted; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Wilkie, of Dover; and her brother-in-law John Schobelock, of Rome, Ga.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at the First Presbyterian Church of Milford, 101 South Walnut St., Milford, where the Rev. John Gilmore will officiate.  Burial will be private at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, with her son Pastor Wayne Hart officiating.
