Julie Ann Citro crowned Miss Delaware USA

Julie Ann Citro of Wilmington was crowned Miss Delaware USA on Nov. 30, at the Dover Sheraton Hotel. Citro is a senior majoring in elementary education at Wilmington University. She is the daughter of retired state police Capt. David J. Citro, local singer-songwriter Lori Citro, and radiation therapist Mary Agnes Citro.

In addition to winning the title of Miss Delaware USA, Citro won the Humanitarian Award for contributing 145 coats to be donated to Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. Citro is a volunteer at A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital and works at the Washington Street Ale House. She will represent Delaware at the Miss USA Pageant on April 18, live from the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

All of the contestants competed in the categories of personal interview, swimsuit and evening gown. The competition was reduced from 30 delegates to 10 semifinalists and then to five finalists.

First runner-up Ashley James would assume the Miss Delaware USA duties if Citro won the Miss USA 2010 title or was for some reason unable to fulfill her responsibilities. Other finalists included second runner-up Julia Fuller, third runner-up Ashley Constantini and fourth runner-up Homairah Bagi.

Utilizing its nationwide grassroots infrastructure, the Miss Universe Organization is committed to increasing awareness of breast and ovarian cancer.
