Kathleen M. Whitman, PNC retiree
Kathleen “Kathy” M. Whitman, 73, of Harbeson, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, peacefully at her home.
Kathy was born in Wilmington April 20, 1951, daughter of the late James McLaughlin and Rita (Iiori) McLaughlin.
She retired as assistant manager at PNC Bank in Rehoboth Beach after over 40 years of service. Kathy loved music, the beach, classic movies, and traveling, and her faith in God was strong. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother to her only daughter and a grandmother to her four grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Kathy was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong, independent woman who faced every challenge in life with courage, dignity and grace. She was a source of inspiration and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Martin McLaughlin Sr. Kathy is survived by her only daughter, Megan Mitchell and her husband Jamie of Lewes; four grandchildren, Jaymes, Ellie, Dominic and Adelina; a brother, James McLaughlin of Wilmington; two sisters, Loretta McCullough and her husband Roger of Newark, and Joanne White and her husband Richard of Lewes; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine McLaughlin of Newark.
A mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may gather at 10:30 a.m. The eulogy will begin at 11:15 a.m. Interment will be held privately at All Saints’ Cemetery, Wilmington at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Kathy’s name to the Long Neck CHEER Center, cheerde.com; or the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
