Kona Ice expands to serve Milton, Georgetown and Millsboro
Bringing tropical tunes and cups of shaved ice everywhere it stops, Kona Ice is expanding in Sussex County.
Its distinctive blend of entertainment and gourmet frozen treats will now be available to people in Georgetown, Milton, Millsboro and surrounding towns.
Local residents Dennis and Jennifer Noonan have begun to deliver the Kona Ice experience, which is unlike any other in the area.
“When people see this bright, colorful truck with a penguin on the side of it driving up, they definitely take notice and are intrigued,” said Dennis, who happily mans the wheel and window most days. “And once they taste the product, they are hooked.”
Kona Ice includes the sounds of calypso music and a menu of more than 40 tropical flavors. The 10 most popular flavors are available for self-service from the Flavorwave interactive dispensing system on the side of the truck.
“We’ve lived in the area for more than 10 years now, and we absolutely love this special community,” said Jennifer. “A big part of the Kona Ice mission is giving back. So, owning this business is the perfect opportunity for us to support the community and help to make an impact where we live.”
The Noonans are continuing the mobile franchise’s tradition of donating thousands of dollars each year to local school groups, teams and community organizations. As they book events with these groups, the Noonans pledge to give back a percentage of the proceeds. Nationwide, Kona Ice has donated more than $82 million to community-based organizations since its launch in June 2007.
“Dennis and Jennifer share our commitment to giving back,” said Tony Lamb, founder and president of Kona Ice, based in Florence, Ky. “They want to have a positive influence on the people in their community, whether it’s new textbooks, sports uniforms or simply a smile. We are proud to have them onboard. Together, we are excited to make a difference in the lives of those around us.”
Beyond fundraisers, the food truck franchise includes stops throughout the area at family and corporate events and festivals.
