A court in Sussex County has found that Santa Claus is real. Superior Court Judge Peter Jones made the ruling Dec. 10.
The 20th annual production of “Miracle on 34th Street” took place at Superior Court in Georgetown with an actual judge and real attorneys playing the key roles. Three groups of students attended the three performances.
The production is based on the classic Christmas movie by the same name that debuted in 1947, and won three Academy Awards. The main character is Kris Kringle, the New York City Macy’s Department Store Santa Claus, who claims he is the real Santa.
Retired attorney Jane Brady, who has been involved with the production since it started, played the defense attorney. Also playing roles were Bliss Soucek as the prosecutor; Jones as the judge; attorney Rob Gibbs as state psychologist; Sean O’Sullivan, chief of community relations for Delaware courts, as the postmaster; Kathy Karsnitz as Mrs. Macy; and Maggie Nagle as the prosecutor’s daughter.
Retired Judge George Herrmann, whose wife came up with the idea, secured the rights from 20th Century Fox to put on the production, which is the only one in the country.
