Leah W. Betts, state retiree
Leah W. Betts, 91, of Milton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.
She was born in Harbeson Nov. 19, 1932, to her parents, John S. and Anna (Walls) Warrington.
Leah was retired from the State of Delaware as chief clerk at the Justice of the Peace Courts. She wore many hats, serving on the State of Delaware Violent Crimes Compensation Board; as chairperson, vice chair and vice mayor of Milton Town Council; State Democratic vice chairperson; Milton Chamber of Commerce; and Milton Century Club. Leah was also a member of Grace Church in Milton. Most important to Leah was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Leah was preceded in death by her loving husband, Nelson; sisters, Ethel W. Hastings and Pearl Warrington; and brother-in-law, Harry Betts.
She is survived by her sons, Robert N. Betts (Nancy) and John Betts (Diane); sister, Retta Clifton; sister-in-law, Hilda Betts; grandchildren, Kyle Betts (Jamie), Ryan H. Betts and Chad D. Betts; step-grandchildren, Stacey Barrett and Chase Kocher; great-grandchildren, Isabel Betts, Cohen Betts and Cayson Betts; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, -nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 19, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 416 Federal St., Milton, where a time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 18. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
