Lee Medaris Drott, lived full, rewarding life

April 20, 2023
Lee Medaris Drott, 88, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, April 17, 2023, after a battle with cancer, surrounded by his adoring family. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Greta; his two sons, Chris (Caryn) and Justin (Zina); as well as two grandchildren, Madison and Luke. Lee was born in Takoma Park, Md., June 29, 1934, to Albert and Frances Drott. He lived in Maryland for almost 75 years until retiring and moving to Lewes in 2008.

Lee lived a full and rewarding life, and cherished time spent with his family and friends. He felt so blessed and proud to have two adoring sons, whom he loved spending time with, and two wonderful and sweet daughters-in-law. He also was blessed with two amazing grandchildren, whom he loved to share knock-knock jokes with. He loved fishing and camping with his family. He enjoyed being in the great outdoors. Working in his yard and being at the beach were some of his favorite activities. Lee was a real history buff, a passion he shared with his son. He was involved with a Civil War Roundtable and took many trips around the country visiting Civil War sites and battlegrounds, and adopting land at Gettysburg battlefield to maintain.

Lee was a grateful and sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 48 years. He shared his experience, strength and hope with so many recovering alcoholics through the years. He volunteered for many years at the WAIA office answering phones for those who needed help. He later became the administrator of WAIA for 25 years. He worked at Circle Treatment Center for many years teaching DUI classes and working with people in recovery. After he retired at 75, he volunteered with Seniors Helping Seniors and taught AARP Safe Driving classes.

We will celebrate his life at 12:30 p.m., Monday, April 24, at Chevy Chase Baptist Church, 5671 Western Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C. The burial will follow at Parklawn Cemetary in Rockville, Md.
