On a chilly December morning in Georgetown, Legacy Academy students celebrated their grandparents and “grand-friends” at the school’s third annual Christmas tea.
Nearly 70 students and guests enjoyed seasonal treats, participated in games and trivia, and shared sweet memories.
“Grandparents make an invaluable investment in our Legacy Academy students. They teach, volunteer, serve on our board of directors and provide for our community in countless ways,” said Karen Barbrow, head of school. “Most importantly, grandparents help shape and mold this generation. It is our privilege to partner with families and thank grandparents for their contribution to our school.”
Legacy students took part in several weeks of etiquette training before the event. Barbrow said, “Etiquette was once a regular part of a student’s education. At Legacy Academy, we desire to share with our students the timeless traditions of the past while endowing students for their future. Proper manners are a foundational part of students’ training – to represent Christ with excellence and encourage them to bless others.”
After a morning assembly and the afternoon tea, grandparents were invited to observe and participate in students’ afternoon classes.
“Our grandparents experienced firsthand the classical difference at Legacy Academy,” said Barbrow. “As the only school of our kind in Sussex County, grandparents appreciated the unique educational model Legacy Academy has in our community. From translating Latin, to an immersive history lesson, to a hands-on science experiment, grandparents saw the quality education their grandchildren are receiving here.”
