Lenora M. Westerman, family matriarch

Lenora M. Westerman, 83, of Blades, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Vienna, W.Va., Monday, Oct. 30, 1933, daughter of the late Emmett R. Halfhill and Effie V. (Davis) Halfhill.

Mrs. Westerman worked for several years at Mountaire in Selbyville before continuing on to the Laurel Senior Center for 15-plus years. In addition to this, she was a homemaker raising her many children and grandchildren. In her free time, she loved crocheting blankets, fuzzy puzzles, crossword puzzles, westerns and watching Family Feud. Mrs. Westerman also was a woman of strong faith, up until the very end when she couldn't make it to church anymore, she still kept her faith and watched her Sunday church programs on TV. Mrs. Westerman was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and dear friend. She was the true matriarch of the family and will be missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wilbur Seymore Sr.; her stepdaughter, Thelma Morris; her three brothers, Emmet, Johnny and Tearo: and her one sister, Eva. She is survived by her eight children: Billy Halfhill and his wife Lily of Richmond, Va., Robert Seymore and his wife Kathy of Chester, W.Va., Harry Seymore Jr. of Westgate, Va., Tammy Seymore of Seaford, Peggy Howard and her husband George of Salisbury, Md., Teresa O'Neal and her husband Randy of Laurel, Sunshine Howard and her wife Sarah of Baltimore, Md., and Benjamin Willis of Laurel; her goddaughter, Lisa Summers of Blades; her four sisters: Jean, Sue, Elnore Ann and Ruth; her sister-in-law, Martha Seymore of Seaford; her 10 grandchildren: Ashley Hastings and her husband Justin Hazzard, who Mrs. Westerman adored as children, Rebecca Hastings, Jerold Dulis, Amanda Duncan, Heather Cook, Chelsea Seymore, Jasmine Seymore, Trey Seymore, Amber Seymore, and Amanda Simkins; her step grandchildren: Daniel Briddelle, Edward Briddelle, Cathi Powell, James Morris Jr., Nikki Lewis and Amanda Lewis; her great-grandchildren: Ja'Naz Hazzard, Arrianna Hazzard, Trinity Washington, Norra Ann Gonzales Howard, Georgia-Rhea Howard, Harper Maddox Howard, Torre Philips, Ian Seymore, Korbin-Le Simpkins, and Cameron Howard; stepgreat-grandchildren: James Briddelle, Destiny Briddelle, Danielle Briddelle, Desere Briddelle, Tyler Powell, Court Powell, Edward Bridelle III, Dillan Briddelle, Megan Morris and James Morris III; and her great-great-grandson, Fernando Ilosivic Gonzales-Howard; her caregiver and lifetime best friend, Avis Henry; and numerous other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m., at Watson-Yates Funeral Home & Crematorium (a Parsell Family Funeral Home) 609 East Kings St., Seaford. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow services at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.
