Leona "Lee" L. Guarna, community activist
Leona "Lee" L. Guarna, 61, of Millville, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016.
Lee was born in São Paulo, Brazil May 24, 1955, daughter of the late Adam and Leona (Flynn) Lloyd. She worked a myriad of jobs throughout her lifetime from the Wheaton Glass Company in Millville, N.J., and the State of Ohio Unemployment Office to several restaurants and grocery stores such as the Topside Restaurant, Skeeter's Sub Shop and Hockers. Her true vocation however, was providing a loving atmosphere not only to her family but also to the community as a whole. She was proud to work with children through the Epworth Preschool, Village Square Child Care and being a homeschool teacher to her youngest child. Lee was also a school bus driver with the Indian River School District, and was employed as a para professional at the Howard T. Ennis School until her disability.
Lee served her community as being a past president of the Lord Baltimore PTO, part of the Sussex Pregnancy Care Center, Maranatha Manna delivery, Aglow and Beta Sigma Pi. She also was a very active participant in the church drama at Bay Shore Community Church in Gumboro, and was a member of Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Adam Lloyd Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Paul Guarna; three children, Lee G. Freeman and her husband Matt of Millville, Paul B. Guarna Jr. and his fiancée Jennifer Maly of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Kelsey E. Guarna of Millville; and three grandchildren, Carter Guarna, Peyton Freeman and Asher Freeman. Lee is also survived by her stepfather, Joseph Flynn and his wife Kay of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; three sisters, Mary Jane Moats and her husband Al of West Virginia, Colleen LaRose and her husband Edward of Milford, N.J., and Suzanne Cheesman and her husband Jim of Tavares, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9, at Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View, where a memorial service and celebration of her life will begin at 2 p.m. A private interment will be held at Roxana Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
