Leroy Absher, owned painting company

September 30, 2018

Leroy Absher, 62, of Redden passed away at home Friday, Sept. 21, 2018.

Leroy was a handyman, and the owner and operator of Absher Painting. He enjoyed painting, and had a strong work ethic. After recently becoming ill, he downsized to a small apartment in Millsboro, but he continued painting, even supervising painting projects in the apartment complex until the apartment manager lovingly told him, “You can’t do that!” Even after being in Millsboro just a short time, he had made instant relationships with the complex staff and neighbors who dearly loved him.

Leroy had a very caring and loving, generous heart for others, especially his family. He loved eating candy, and enjoyed sharing it with others, especially sneaking it to his nieces and nephews. Leroy was a jokester and loved to make people laugh as well. When he wasn’t painting, he enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques. He loved NASCAR and dirt track racing. He had an extensive NASCAR collection; several items that he most treasured were inherited from his brother Richard.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Levi and Ina (Bowers) Absher; and four siblings, Dexter Absher, Cora Absher, Richard Absher, to whom he was very close and missed dearly, and Barbara Warfle.

He is survived by two children, son Joshua Absher and his wife Brandie; and daughter Tricia Absher-Mix; their mother, Patricia Wagner; two granddaughters, Alana and Alivia; and a grandson due in one month, Cole Joshua, whom he was so looking forward to meeting; nine siblings, JL Absher (Shirley), Susie Brittingham (Jesse), Dianna West (Richard), Nancy Passwaters, Lola Cunningham, Brenda Taggart, Connie Garris, Becky Mosley, and Linda Lape; stepmother, Carol Lee Absher; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Leroy is also survived by the Cronic family by whom he was raised, and whom he loved dearly, James H. “Jim” Cronic Sr. (2006), Ofelia Cronic, James Jr. (Darlene), Kenny (Katrina), Clifford (Donni), Terry (Peggy), and Wayne Cronic; as well as extended family. Darlene was always there for him, and he thought very highly of her.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m. A time of visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leroy’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
