Lessard Builders: Custom homes, quality workmanship
There’s no shortage of area contractors claiming to be custom homebuilders, but few of those companies are able to back up their claims.
Third-generation Lessard Builders has taken ownership of what being a custom homebuilder means.
Why should someone build a Lessard home?
“No one surpasses our quality, and our loyalty to our local community is very important to us. We’re also proud to say that when we come up with a number, that’s what the number is. We’re not coming to the closing table with change orders and things of that nature,” said Brian Lessard Sr., company principal.
He said for more than 60 years the family-owned company has been building homes throughout Sussex and Kent counties and occasionally in New Castle County and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
“But our primary area is the beach, all the way down to Fenwick Island,” Lessard said.
The company recently held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate opening of its Lewes office on Shady Road.
Lessard said the company doesn’t advertise much because it hasn’t needed to.
“Our advertising comes through our past clients,” he said.
“We’ve always been a small builder and we plan to be a small builder. We build 15 to 25 homes a year,” Lessard said.
He said he meets with each client, which he called a rarity in today’s home-construction business
“I’m involved throughout the whole process, from beginning to end,” Lessard said.
Lessard said not many people realize that regional and national homebuilders ship in most of their materials from elsewhere.
“We’re a local builder, and our local products are actually purchased here. We’re very much into our local community,” he said.
The company has a model home in Oakwood Village at Lewes on Route 24, about one mile east of Baywood Greens, and a model in the Dickinson Creek community, west of Frederica.
“If you want honesty, integrity and quality, we’re your builder,” Lessard said.
