Let’s work together for good of all

August 27, 2024
We are coming to the typical end of summer when tourists return home to schools and colleges, and the locals gradually return to preseason enjoyment. I hope everyone takes a breath and remembers where we live and why we live here. We live in a beautiful community that respects all walks of life; we are blended.

Whether old Sussex likes it or not, we are a village. Please keep that in mind as we enter the coming season. We’re entitled to our own beliefs, and it's not OK to ridicule anyone for their beliefs. Let's not do what the rest of the country does. National media outlets like to fire up their base. Unfortunately, they make a lot of people angry and afraid, and promote half-truths from all sides.

Step back, get the facts, do research from actual governmental sites, and federal, state and county resources. Reading the laws that are in the books for Sussex County, I have said to many people that Lewes is on track to be in the same shape as Rehoboth with excessive growth. We can't blame it on one person or one political party. We need to place citizens in our elected positions who will continue to work on change.

Planning and zoning is an appointed position by county council. Change starts there. Planning and zoning approves what is written in the comprehensive plan. If you don't like what is happening to our county, then get out and vote. Vote in representatives who are willing to work together as a whole collectively to create change. We need western Sussex to work with eastern Sussex to create meaningful change. That means voting out people who just want to rubber stamp according to party lines.

We need people who are willing to do the hard work, roll up their sleeves and work across the aisle. This is a democracy to me, a melting pot with all different views working together to compromise for a better tomorrow that is better for everyone.
