Lewes in Bloom tulips bring color to the area

Lewes in Bloom tulip beds are starting to burst out with color. Each fall, the group digs up old bulbs and plants thousands of new bulbs in parks and entryways in Lewes. Amid postponements and shutdowns, few Lewes Tulip Celebration events will take place, but that doesn’t preclude area residents who are outside taking walks for exercise from stopping and enjoying the beauty presented each spring by a dedicated group of volunteers.
Tulips fill a bed sponsored by Schell Brothers at the intersection of Kings Highway and Freeman Highway.
Depending on the location, tulips are coming into full bloom in Lewes.
Tulips are a reminder of Lewes’ tie to Holland, a country famous for its tulips. The Dutch first settled Lewes, calling it Zwaanendael, or Swan Valley, in June 1631.
