Friends, family and neighbors showed up in the front yard of Jackie Sunderland Finer’s Lewes home Oct. 20, to wish her a happy 90th birthday.
Just a week or so earlier, another group, including elected officials, gathered in front of Finer’s house to celebrate her contributions to older adults in eastern Sussex County and her lifetime of work as a gerontologist to improve the lives of aging Americans nationwide.
The Village Volunteers, formerly known as the Greater Lewes Community Village, started with three people seated at Jackie’s kitchen table, and Finer’s dream came true when the Village began offering services to older adults in November 2013.
